Free Website Tools

In order to build and publish a website there are certain tools you’ll need at a minimum. One is an HTML editor, another is an FTP program, and a file Zip/unZip application. An HTML editor is an application used for creating Web pages. An FTP program is used to transfer Web pages (and other supporting files) from your computer up to your Web Server. A file Zip/unZip application is used to compress, or decompress files so they are smaller, and take up less space (and therefore can be transferred more quickly).

How Search Engines Work

Search Engines are special sites on the Web that
are designed to help people find information stored on other sites. There are differences in the ways various Search Engines work, but they all perform three basic tasks:

  1. They search the Internet – or select pieces of the Internet – based on important words,
  2. They keep an index of the words they find, and where they find them, and
  3. They allow users to look for words or combinations of words found in that index.
